Importing Nexus 2 repository into Nexus 3

Hi everyone,

I’m kind of new to Nexus and I was recently asked to investigate how to perform a migration from Nexus 2 to Nexus 3.

First assignment was to take a hosted repo from Nexus 2 to try and import it into an existing installation of Nexus 3. Diving into the documentation I quickly found a guide (Repository Import) that displays the how-to. The thing is… Can I include a remote directory as “Source directory” (Nexus 2 and Nexus 3 installations live on different servers on our premises) or does it have to be a directory local to Nexus 3?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Emilio,
Have you seen our page describing Upgrading from Nexus Repository Manager 2 yet?

Hi Dawid.

Thanks for the info. I didn’t check that upgrading guide, mainly because we’re not trying to perform an actual upgrade (meaning, not trying to convert our Nexus 2 installation into a Nexus 3). Our goal is to keep that Nexus 2 as it is, but take all its hosted repositories and import them into our Nexus 3. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I was convinced that was a possible scenario. Would it still be feasible to do that even if our source Nexus 2 isn’t on its latest version?

Thanks again for your help!
