I wonder if one could take a blobstore from a dev instance and move it to a separate production instance ?

The data directory of NXRM3 is movable so if you move your entire NXRM3 instance the blobstore could be moved with it. If you’re using a remote file system when you move the instance as long as the new server can access the remote it should still work.
If you want to move a single blobstore and not your entire instance, then you probably need https://issues.sonatype.org/browse/NEXUS-11468 and to move the repositories instead. When reimporting them it should recreate the blobstore whatever new location.
Unfortunately, that ticket is under development and those are the only ways I can think of.
